Join us as we break into a new
dimension of visual arts!
The work of Sophie Taeuber-Arp is considered a quintessential embodiment of the abstract-geometric conceptions advanced by
artists in the first half of the 20th century in various countries, including
Poland. The exhibition at ZAMEK Culture
Centre will present the oeuvre of Sophie Taeuber-Arp spanning a period from the
late 1920s to the untimely, tragic passing of the artist in January 1943. It
was over those years that Sophie Taeuber-Arp developed her characteristic,
unique style, and built the self-awareness of a thoroughly autonomous artist.
Her achievement puts her among the foremost modern artists from the circles of
Abstraction and Constructivism, such as Hans Arp, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró or Katarzyna
Kobro, all of whom signed The
Dimensionist Manifesto, one of the most important avant-garde platform
statements in the history of visual arts.
Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s contribution to the
development of the abstract and geometric current, as well as the significance
of her oeuvre had for a long time received less attention than it
deserved. However, later studies and reassessments
recognized that the artist merits an important place in the history of 20th-century
art.
Information in German and Ukrainian language will be available in the Exhibition Hall.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s works reflect fascinations with painting, architecture, mathematics, physics, philosophy, dance, and fashion. We are going to explore some of those areas in the course of lectures and workshops which accompany the exhibition. The polymorphic planes, colourful figures, and criss-crossing lines from the artist’s paintings and drawings will provide a pretext to create original abstract objects during family workshops. Thanks to collaboration with the Theatre of Animation, we are going to learn the secrets of tailoring and puppetry. Also, the oeuvre of Sophie Taeuber-Arp will be our frame of reference as we will be looking at the jewellery of the period, geometry in art, and Dada theatre.
