Typotheque – Digital Accessibility for Persons with Impaired Vision / Hector Mangas (Typotheque)

What went into the design of this conference's branding typeface? This session presents the case study of Zed, designed by Typotheque with accessibility in mind. Drawing on clinical research with the Paris Ophthalmology Hospital, this talk will dive into the foundry’s methodology. Moreover, the talk will touch on a new initiative focused on deepening our understanding of accessibility and sharing resources with other designers. This will advance the launch of a new free online resource that documents the latest research and guidelines on different accessible initiatives.

Personal Accessibility Tools in Cinema: Present State and the Near Future – Rafał Charłampowicz

This presentation will explore actual tools and technologies used today by audiences with visual impairment in the cinema. Rafał Charłampowicz is going to discuss the role of modern assistive technologies (e.g. image recognition and smart glasses) and the limitations that their use involves. Then, we are going to take a look at the near future of solutions used by blind persons (e.g. guide robots) as well as the resulting organizational and informational challenges for cinemas. With regards to genuine cinema accessibility, particular emphasis will be placed on systemic solutions, clear information and staff competence.
