COMPETITION FOR FEATURES IN THE ST MARTIN STREET NAME DAY PARADE
Did you know that the Street Name Day celebrates its anniversary this year? And it’s not just any random anniversary, but the 30th already. Defying stereotypes, we want to show that life after 30 is not just about a sore back and an ornamented pillbox. There’s still loads of energy within that drive one to action. Share your enthusiasm and creativity with us, submitting your idea for a feature in the parade and join us as we go along St Martin Street on 11 November 2024.
St Martin Street Name Day has been organized by ZAMEK Culture Centre since 1994. The joyful event combines with Poznań’s unique way of celebrating 11 November. As in previous years, its spirit manifests in the motto DO GOOD, drawing on the stance of the namesake, St Martin.
As the Name Day coincides with the Independence Day, we see it as an opportunity to show everyone what modern patriotism is: supporting those in need, building bridges of understanding and caring for our surroundings—the natural environment and the climate. At the same time, we want to share it, celebrating 11 November also as a day filled with pride in local identity and heritage, respect for diversity, openness and friendly gestures.
The annual Street Name Day Parade—staged in collaboration with various local groups—is an extremely important part of that celebration. Artists, community collectives, Poznań schools and anyone else willing to participate is welcome to contribute to this year’s parade.
What you need to know?
1. The task in the competition is to develop a design which will serve to create a feature in the St Martin Parade, which will travel up St Martin Street on 11 November 2024.
2. The competition is open to individuals, associations, foundations and unincorporated entities (e.g. schools, housing estate councils). Residence in Poznań or Polish citizenship is not required to participate. We welcome designs in which various local communities are involved as co-creators.
3. Each applicant may submit a maximum of 2 entries.
4. The entries should draw on the event’s motto, i.e. DO GOOD, St Martin’s tradition or be aligned with the theme of Independence Day. The designs should be consistent with the ideas of the Street Name Day described above. We welcome undertakings that promote environmentally friendly use of materials and “second-hand” items.
What we offer?
1. Funding to elaborate and deliver the winning designs as well as remunerate the work of the creators; the maximum amount of funding for one design is PLN 15,000 gross.
2. Substantive assistance and logistical support.
3. Possibility of using CK ZAMEK’s premises and equipment, if available and agreed with the institution’s representative, Andrzej Maszewski.
