October at ZAMEK Culture Centre is first
and foremost a celebration of the documentary!
On October 15th-20th, 2019, join us for the 23rd International Documentary Film Festival OFF CINEMA.
These six days will be all about the meeting of the viewer and the filmmaker, an opportunity to talk and share, as well as—most of all—to see a vast range of documentaries from all over the world. It is this the first time that the Golden, Silver, and Bronze Castle will be awarded in the categories of SHORT (under 30 minutes) and FULL-LENGTH films (above 30 minutes).
The Festival is accompanied by an extensive programme of screenings outside the competition. Each section (Mountain Documentary, Architecture of the Documentary, Documentary Sounds, Films About Films) offers a selection of the most acclaimed and prize-winning recent titles. Next to those, we will show a range of pictures from this year’s Millennium Docs Against Gravity and a choice of works created by the 2019 OFF CINEMA jurors: Wojciech Staroń, Francesco Clerici and Marta Prus.
OFF CINEMA Festival also means an opportunity to talk about books, as we will be holding meetings with Anna Sobolewska, Tadeusz Sobolewski, Piotr Czerkawski and Dorota Brauntsch.
On October 9th, Teatr pod Fontanną will appear as part of our Common Theatre with the premiere of their Grimm, directed by Janusz Stolarski. The company will also revisit their earlier performance, The Violet Cow. October will also see Deaf to the Stage, a three-day workshop with Wojciech Ziemilski.
From October 23rd to 25th, 2019, the Castle will be the venue of a series of meetings as part of VERY YOUNG CULTURE: GREATER POLAND!, whose catchword is "Education in Crisis. Exchange of Experiences. Greater Polish Forum of Cultural Education.” We wish to meet and discuss alternative methods of exchanging knowledge, of non-formal and involved education. We want to talk about how—despite unfavourable circumstances—to educate oneself to critical and conscious participation in social life.
Why take children to the theatre? So that they may ask questions and look for answers, learn to think on their own and see better, more, and further. Each month on a Sunday, viewers aged 2-5 will be able to enjoy seZame(k) theatre, featuring companies working with children and developing performances for that particular audience. On October 27th, Teatr Uszyty from Cracow will perform a piece entitled Who’s There?
What about Zamek’s artists-in-residence?
On October 15th, Daniel Koniusz will inaugurate his
two-month residency Temporary Broadcast
Institute and meet the audience. This curatorial-authorial
project, consisting in an active visual-auditory experience, is intended to
yield a permanent composition within the space and everyday life at ZAMEK
October will also see the episode #25 of our JazZamek series (October 13th), with Andrzej Kowalski Quartet performing Abstrakt.
Please remember that the exhibition of works of the exceptional Sophie Taeuber-Arp may be seen throughout October (ending on November 24th). The exhibition is open daily Tue-Sun from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
