THE ROUND TABLE \ PAWEŁ GRZEŚ

This documentary photographic project delves into the history and background of the Round Table talks of 1989. However, it does not focus on the events (their documentation or assessment) but tells the tale of the object at the very core of it – the table. It was made of oak felled in the Białowieża Forest. The timber was processed at a sawmill in nearby Hajnówka, while the carpentry job was done by the Henryków Bespoke & Period Furniture Makers in Warsaw. This pictorial, photographic narrative invites a broad range of references to contemporary events, creating a space in which the meanings of objects and symbols may be reinterpreted.
