As a classical pianist, Masecki released an album devoted to Chopin’s nocturnes, which he interprets on his already legendary piano – a small, mid-end, 6-octave Kemble. It is his fifth album in the classical series. The common denominator of all is the unorthodox approach to the canon of classical music, which often relies on borrowing performing strategies and tools from other genres.
For the past four years, the artist has been the leader of JazzBandBigBend, who play music to dance to. Their repertoire comprises 1930s standards, enriched with originally composed gems here and there. Also, Masecki increasingly often collaborates with drummer Jerzy Rogiewicz, with whom they focus on even earlier ragtime pieces from the 1920s.
Also, Masecki has been an active contributor to the summer programme of Plac Defilad, Warsaw’s cultural courtyard, so to speak, functioning along with the Studio Theatre. Together with Tomek Pokrzywiński, the artist is responsible for the Transkrypcje festival, a series of Sunday concerts presenting the Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, in chamber arrangements for various ensembles.
As a composer, Masecki is regularly invited to work with festivals and contemporary ensembles. The most recent Płaczemy a piece for female choir and extended wind section, drums and piano, premiered at the Jazztopad festival in Wrocław.
Masecki also composes music for motion pictures (Zimna Wojna, Obce Niebo, Fuck For Forest) and theatre (Solaris and Pasażerka). He is also a member of Pictorial Candi, a band whose leader is Candelaria Saenz Valiente, privately his wife. For the past decade, the artist has been associated with Lado ABC label.
