conducted by Anna Gruszka
Taking
the works at the exhibition as its starting point, this walk will introduce you
to plants from the immediate surroundings. We’ll find out about the origins of
the plants around us, the arrival of non-native species to Europe, as well as
its environmental and social consequences. We’ll take a look at the
morphological characteristics of plants which enable accurate identification
and learn how to determine plant species using a field guide and an app. This
meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the colonization of botany and
reflect on how we perceive plants: as the Other or as a threat? Can we
decolonize how we think about the plant world? For the practical part, the
participants will be introduced to zine-making and create their own
mini-booklets using clippings from newspapers and old herbaria as well as
plants collected during the walk.
