Imperial Rooms

Originally, these were the emperor’s private apartments, but their present-day appearance dates back to the wartime conversion, carried out in line with the Nazi aesthetics.

The Birch Roomthe middle one in the suite of three interiors ‒ is decorated with beautiful birch panelling from the 1940s. It is one of the most interesting among the so-called yacht-style interiors. Along with the adjacent rooms, it now often becomes a venue of art exhibitions.

In the imperial times, the Walnut Room was known as the Norwegian Room, with ornamentation that reflected the emperor’s fondness for Scandinavia. However, nothing of the original decor has survived. Again, its current shape is the effect of to the World War II refurbishment, when the panelling on the walls and built-in buffet counters were mounted to create an impressive dining room.
