The term “Cantadora” comes from traditional
Colombian music influenced by African roots and refers to the women that
compose and sing their songs while going through their daily chores. Maria
Fernanda Sánchez identifies throughout her research the musical and political
richness in this practice, thus defining the different analytical axes to
compare the relationship between the music and the complex political situation
found in the regions where the documentary was shot.
