The traditional polyphonic songs of the Slavs make up the chief part of the repertoire of this ensemble, but they are no strangers to Georgian, Scandinavian or Occitan chants. Although the songs are performed in authorial arrangements which to a varied degree lend them a new aspect, they still retain clarity and achieve the essence of shared, musical sensibility.
LaboratoriumPieśni brings you melodies floating against the backdrop of droning vocals and intriguing harmonies synchronized with the regular beat of frame drums. The music performed by the Tricity singers echoes many questions one cannot help asking and yet manages to provide deeply moving answers, in which the varied shades and hues of the beautiful female voices are accompanied by the sounds of flutes, bowls, and gongs.
Pieśni is truly what its name suggests, an atelier of music, a process of
reflecting on traditional singing, the body, the ways of conveying sound as
well as on what is important and sincere about the human voice. This is a
continual action which combines song, shamanic conjurations, cries and
whispers, as it goes beyond a single act of performance and embodies the
evolution of an idea that members of the ensemble readily share during the
workshops they conduct.
