St Martin Street Name Day
On November 11th, 2025, let us all meet in Poznań for St Martin Street Name Day! Since 1994, ZAMEK Culture Centre has celebrated that day, combining Independence Day festivities with the local St Martin’s tradition. The symbols of this day include St Martin, patron saint of the city’s main street, and the St Martin’s croissant, a sweet treat filled with white poppy seeds, dried fruit and nuts. It has been baked in Poznań for over 150 years, lending the celebrations of November 11th in Poznań a unique local flavour and became a symbol of the city.

In keeping with tradition
As usual on Street Name Day, numerous vendors will open their stalls at the St. Martin’s Fair. The traditional croissant will, of course, play the starring role! This sweet pastry is a symbol of sharing goodness with others in Poznań. In the past, it was distributed to less affluent residents, today it accompanies family gatherings or, well wrapped for safety, often travels far beyond Poznań, carrying the taste and the idea of community. Perhaps this is why it can be a simple sign of goodness that brings people together.
Given that November 11th marks Polish Independence Day, remember that sharing—whether it is time, attention or kindness—as well as openness to others are a solid foundation of modern-day patriotism.
What is changing?
This November, we are going to see another change. Each year, more and more people come to celebrate the Name Day and, although we are very happy to see you all there, we must ensure that everyone is safe. As we feel it is our responsibility and have also received such a request from the police, we are going to secure the event area with fences and apply the rules applicable to mass events. So, join us at Adam Mickiewicz Square, the intersection of Niepodległości Avenue, in St Martin Street, and in front of ZAMEK Culture Centre.
The programme will follow the format of the previous years. You will be able to take part in cultural activities, listen to live concerts and enjoy the croissants at the fair.
There is some novelty too, with large-scale figures and objects known from the parade. Like a few years ago, Bamberka, Pegaz and Koziołki will be on stationary display—within easy reach of your hand and camera—but enlivened with theatrical and musical activities.
We sincerely hope that the event in its new form will still inspire people to celebrate the values of St Martin, at the family table and when meeting other people, both in person and in the virtual space.
